Where do I start?

On placement

The first step

If you're looking for a placement, you need to fill out a registration form and submit a CV and covering letter.

Contact Angela, our Placement Officer for details on how to do this:  a.reilly@derby.ac.uk or call 01332 593 227.

You can also drop in to see her in the Faculty Office - MS001.

It's never too late to register and search for a placement. The earlier you make a start, the better your chances of securing a good position.  So, what are you waiting for?

The jobs board

Once you've registered you'll be given a password to access the jobs board.

This is a web based resource where we advertise a range of vacancies,  work experience and personal development opportunities.

In order to keep up to date with what's on offer, we strongly advise you to log on and take a look at least once a week from the beginning of your second year.

Once you've found a placement

There are a few things you'll need to do:

  • Inform Angela as soon as possible and let her have a copy of your offer letter and contract as confirmation of the placement.
  • You'll then be given your Task 1 forms. These form part of the management tasks for your placement year, and need to be completed and returned to Angela within two weeks of starting your placement.
  • We'll write to the company you'll be on placement with to outline the support that we offer.
