I did the access to health science course. My ambition was to study diagnostic radiography and with no A levels or equivalent qualifications I felt that the door to higher education was firmly shut. After reading about the access course and going to an information event I knew this was not the case and that this was the course for me. The course itself was outstanding. I have truly enjoyed every aspect of the course.
I haven’t always known that I wanted to go into radiography, but I have always had a passion for health care and people’s wellbeing. I made my decision to pick radiography after going to the open day and knew that after being on the access for just a short period of time that derby university was the only place I wanted to study. The access course helped me in so many ways not just with qualifications I need but it gave me guidance, support, confidence and a new thirst for knowledge.
The tutors are guiding but are fully aware of the challenge’s students face on the degrees that they are going on to so also helped you prepare for the future. The rapport is quickly built but I had a great feeling that each tutor would go above and beyond to help if they could. The support was not just in class time also, emails where promptly replied to.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Derby university, all the tutors and staff on the access course. I hope that people take the plunge to do the course if they are in two minds as it was one of the best decisions I have made and that it has set me up for the future for which I am extremely grateful.
