The College of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences is made up of two Departments.
Department of Law, Criminology and Social Sciences
Our Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses include the LLB, and LLM - each with specialist qualifying pathways and our Legal Practice Course. We also boast an extensive criminology and policing provision, politics, international relations and sociology.
You'll study an exciting and innovative curriculum, delivered by our expert team of academics and enhanced by talks, masterclasses, and seminars from professionals working across the legal, criminal and political professions. Our on-campus facilities bring the subject to life as you learn in both crown and family law courts, a crime scene house, and interviewing suites.
Our unique approach to bringing the skills of the practitioner into the classroom, whilst ensuring practice is core to your development underpins our approach to learning and is endorsed by our consistent ranking as one of the top law courses in the National Student Survey.
Department of Humanities
Our Department focuses on the study of human culture and society with subject areas including; English, Liberal Arts, Creative Writing, History, American Studies, Media and Communication, Journalism and Publishing.
Our team of experienced tutors are experts in their field and networked into pioneering research activities. Their passion and enthusiasm brings each subject to life. With regular study visits and field trips, visiting speakers and lively classroom debate and discussion, we'll support you to achieve your best whilst here at Derby.
