What are open badges
Open or Digital badges are a digital implementation of physical badges, and can be achieved by completing specific tasks and goals set by the issuer, for example the University of Derby. The issuer will create a set of criteria they want the badge earner to complete before the badge is awarded.
The bages can be shared on blogs, online portfolios and CVs.
Why would I use open badges
Badges are an opportunity to gain recognition for aspects of learning that would not have been rewarded or recognised in a formalised manner. For example, this could be acknowledgement of extracurricular activities or CPD.
