Joint Honours Academic Conference - ‘Academic advising for multi-subject degrees’
Tuesday, 19 April at 9am - 12.30pm
Kedleston Road, room T204
Who should attend
Anyone who teaches or supports Joint Honours students
Studying two subjects at university is very popular with 10% of all undergraduates studying in this way, both at Derby and nationally. This conference welcomes as keynote speaker Professor Peter Lawler, Director of the University College for Interdisciplinary Learning at the University of Manchester. Peter Lawler is a Professor of international politics and, since 2012, the founding Academic Director of the University College for Interdisciplinary Learning at the University of Manchester. He is a former Academic Director (2007-12) of one of the University of Manchester’s largest and oldest undergraduate degree programmes, the BA Economic and Social Studies. Peter’s interest in curriculum development stems from 30 years’ experience of university teaching at all levels, primarily in the UK and Australia but also through visiting positions in Canada, Spain, Russia, Switzerland and India. He has also held appointments as External Examiner to undergraduate or graduate programmes at eight UK and Irish universities.
The conference will explore ways of best supporting students studying in this challenging and yet highly enriching way. This will include interactive workshops, which will be led by students and Joint Honours subject/college leaders. There will also be a session on personal tutoring at Derby, led by Dr. Chris Wilson from Learning Enhancement.
