We're committed to reducing our impact on the environment and the local community, so we're a University that really does care.

Here are just a few of our achievements:

Waste management

We recycle over 30% of our waste each year, aiming for 50% by 2013.

Donating to charity

We collect and donate unwanted items to charity.

Fairtrade University

We're an accredited Fairtrade University so we sell Fairtrade products in our shops and cafes.

Renewable technology

We generate our own electricity on site using wind turbines and solar panels.

Water management

We've saved over £250,000 on our water bill by using energy efficient measures.

Environmental management

We've achieved EcoCampus Silver award demonstrating commitment to continual environmental improvement.

Sustainable publications

All our major publications are printed with vegetable based inks on recycled paper.

Energy management

We're making our towers at Kedleston Road three times more energy efficient.

Environmentally aware

We've recently been awarded a 'First' in the People and Planet Green League, which judges universities on their environmental performance.
