Welcome to the Joint Honours Scheme

Induction and Enrolment in January 2013

Your first week at university will be the time when you find out about the University and about studying on the Joint Honours Scheme or the Combined Studies Programme. You'll meet academic and support staff who'll be important to you during your study and you'll start to find your way around the University so that you will be ready for the start of teaching on Monday 21 January 2013.

The Induction and Enrolment programmes for Joint Honours and Associate/ Combined Studies students are different.

If you're a Joint Honours student, just carry on reading.

Here's the information for Associate/ Combined Studies students

So, what's going to happen during Joint Honours Induction and Enrolment?

Here is a ''4 Steps'' guide of what you'll be expected to do, and when to do it.

Step 1 - Welcome Session Tuesday 15 January, 9.30am

The Welcome Session will take place in Room E703 (East Tower, 7th floor).

The Head of Joint Honours will explain what it means to study Joint Honours and you'll hear from other staff who are here to support you during your time at Derby.

You'll be given a Welcome Pack with all of the paperwork you will need during Induction and Enrolment week.  Remember to keep the Welcome Pack safe, you will need it at different points during the week.

Make sure that you go to the Welcome Session before going along to the other events.

Step 2 - Subject Introductions Tuesday 15 January

This will be your chance to find out more about the subjects you'll be studying, meet academic staff involved with the subject and start to think about the modules you'll be studying for the Spring semester.  You'll need to attend 2 sessions, one for each of the subjects you'll be studying with us.  Here are the times and room numbers for the introductions:

English/ History

11.00 - 11.45am Room: N604

Film & Television Studies

12noon - 12.45pm Room: E709

American Studies

1.30 - 2.15pm Room: E707

All other Subjects (Open Session)

12noon - 1.30pm Room: N702

Step 3 - Module Selection and Programme Advice Tuesday 15 January at 3pm

This will also be in Room E703 (East Tower, 7th floor). This is where the Joint Honours Academic Counsellors will check over your module choices, will give you any extra advice you might need, and you'll get help in working out your timetable for attending taught sessions.

Step 4 - Enrolment and Confirmation of Enrolment

This will be in the Library; don't worry, we'll show you how to get there.  It's where we'll get you to log onto a PC and input your personal details and your module choices.  It's here where we'll also talk to you about your fees and activate any student loans.  If you're paying your own fees, you'll be able to see a cashier here too. Finally, you'll be able to pick up your student ID card.

Teaching begins on Monday 21 January

Here's some information that'll be important for you once teaching starts

Remember

The Programme Advisory Service is the admin centre for the Joint Honours Scheme and the Combined Studies Programme.  We have specially trained staff to help students taking the JHS and the CSP understand their profiles and credit position.  Please come along to see a member of the team if you have any questions, we're based in the Student Centre in the Atrium at Kedleston Road.  We can book you an appointment with an Academic Counsellor too, if that's what you need to do.
